How the PI Reports Engine Works
Setting up reports using PI Reports Engine is straightforward, thanks to its Excel integration. And you can automate reporting, to free you for other tasks.
Set Up Your Report
Identify your report’s filename, storage path, frequency, and formats. Simple report settings allow you to set hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly report distribution intervals. Event Frames can also be used to trigger PI Notifications which can send a SOAP message to PI Reports.
Build Your Report In Excel
Create and format your report as usual in your spreadsheet program then upload it to PI Reports. The plugin leverages PI DataLink to allow the insertion of PI data fields. You can take advantage of any calculations or data transformations you have already set up in your PI System and any number of formula attributes using the write-to-row naming convention. Add your own formulae and formatting as needed for clear analysis and ease of viewing.
Optionally Include Specialized Template Library Functions
With the Process Plugins foundation in place, you’ll have unlimited access to their templates library for access to advanced analytics functions plus the full set of 1997 thermodynamic properties of water and steam. Simply choose the library items you need.
PI Reports Engine Does Its Magic
The engine reads your report, extracts the field variables to a SQL server database where data queries are automated each time you need an updated instance of the report.

PI Reports uses your settings to automatically distribute reports according to your schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) in Excel, PDF, HTML, or CSV format.

PI Reports plugin can send individual emails or to a distribution list. You can also opt for FTP/SFTP distribution to store electronic backups or make the report data available for other systems.
